How does the hi algorithm work?

The algorithm behind hi (habit-inspiring platform) is based on the behavioral model of habits proposed by Charles Duhigg, a journalist and author of the book *The Power of Habits*, who states that to establish a new behavior, it is necessary to “install” a new habit through repeated actions. This involves starting with small steps that require minimal effort; finding an existing habit to which the new behavior can be attached; repeating the behavior every day for at least 30 days; talking to someone about it and making sure to stick to the behavior; and starting right away, without putting it off.

h.i. leverages this scientific theory by translating it into an algorithm that influences user behavior through personalized coaching guidance, available in real time. h.i. operates using usage models based on data and the specific architecture of the tool the user desires, while fully respecting privacy and personal data.

All of this translates into the following main components of the platform:

  1. Tips: brief daily advice and suggestions on new ways of working and how to work smart. They are h.i.’s primary awareness-building tool and a highly effective means of circular communication. Every morning, users can read an engaging educational snippet while maintaining direct contact with their digital coach. The tips appear just like “good morning” messages, before the user performs their routine action, delivering a tailored message about the learning plan’s content and its practical applications, highlighting immediate benefits for the user;
  2. nudge: While a user is performing an action, h.i. sends a context-specific suggestion and guides the user toward the optimal choice at that moment. The frequency of these prompts is regulated by artificial intelligence mechanisms and a specific behavioral design logic;
  3. Digital dashboard: This is h.i.’s central hub, which is always accessible, allowing you to continue your training on-demand; it’s where you can manage your coaching plans, monitor your processes, and access customized insights. The dashboard can be accessed directly via Teams or from the desktop traybar.

A Success Story with the Habit-Inspiring Platform

The development of a "habit-inspiring" project at a client company involved working closely with the IT department and then engaging all other departments: from HR to Security, Training, and Internal Communications.

The project was successful thanks to a hybrid model that involved everyone in the company (approximately 30,000 people) through a custom-designed communication and awareness plan and by segmenting the target population into three distinct groups: approximately 10,000 completed the program solely through the h.i platform; approximately 12,000 participated in training workshops and used a toolkit; and the remainder (who work in the field and are less involved in day-to-day collaboration) were provided with key communication materials and self-learning tools.

The use of the habit-inspiring (SaaS) platform made it possible to keep the costs of introducing new ways of working to a minimum while ensuring that everyone could be involved quickly, thus achieving a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.

The planning and implementation of the platform took place entirely during the pandemic and served as a key resource in enabling the company to adopt its chosen collaboration tools—Teams and M365— while also introducing new approaches to digital learning and fostering the development of new skills and behaviors.

As a SaaS platform, the cost savings it offers compared to traditional training and learning systems were also a major advantage.
